Healthy Start COIN

A Collaborative Innovation Network (COIN) is a team of self-motivated people with a collective vision, enabled by the web to collaborate in achieving a common goal by sharing ideas, information and work COIN participants will:

  1. Create and sustain a “cyberteam”
  2. Foster innovation through immediate and ongoing communication across all levels
  3. Ensure work is done in patterns characterized by meritocracy, transparency and openness to contributions from everyone
  4. Create innovations that are open and disruptive

In November 2020, Healthy Start grantees were invited to apply to join the inaugural Healthy Start COIN. The TA & Support Center (TASC) plans to open an application for the second COIN in 2021.

 

Healthy Start Mentoring Program

The Healthy Start Mentoring Program provides an opportunity for experienced Healthy Start Project Directors with proven expertise to mentor another Healthy Start program. The Healthy Start TA & Support Center (TASC) is working in partnership with the National Healthy Start Association (NHSA) to coordinate the mentoring program.

In October 2020, the first Healthy Start mentoring cohort of this funding cycle was launched. TASC anticipates launching another cohort of the mentoring program in summer/fall of 2021.

 

Healthy Start Cohorts

The Healthy Start Cohorts provide a space for a small group of grantees to connect and collaborate on topics directly related to the Healthy Start approaches and benchmarks. Healthy Start Breastfeeding Cohort

In June 2020, TASC launched the first Healthy Start Cohort: the Breastfeeding Cohort. The purpose of the Healthy Start Breastfeeding Cohort is to convene Healthy Start grantees – who are prepared to and interested in improving and building out their breastfeeding support and education activities – and support them in meeting the Healthy Start breastfeeding benchmarks. Cohort members engaged in a six-month learning series, including webinars and Healthy Start CoLab activities. The inaugural Breastfeeding Cohort will wrap up in December 2020 and the application to join the next cohort will launch in 2021.

Other Cohorts

TASC plans to launch additional cohorts in January 2021, including Fatherhood and Community Action Network (CAN) Cohorts. Healthy Start Cohorts provide space and place for HS grantees to come together to learn about what other grantees are doing, identify and document promising practices, and co-create tools and resources for the broader HS community. Cohorts provide small groups of HS staff (20-25) with opportunities to connect with other HS staff across the country, lift up and spread successful practices, and brainstorm solutions for common challenges.

Healthy Start Fatherhood Cohort

The goal of the Healthy Start Fatherhood Cohort is to convene HS grantees – who are prepared to and interested in enhancing and strengthening their fatherhood work – to create shared best practices for Involving, Connecting and Engaging fathers and achieving the goal of 100 fathers in the HS program.

Community Action Network Cohort

The goal of the Healthy Start CAN cohort is to convene HS grantees – who are prepared to and interested in enhancing and strengthening their HS CAN work – to create best practices for establishing and maintaining a high-functioning HS CAN.

Healthy Start Learning Academies

The Healthy Start TA & Support Center (TASC) is pleased to offer several group-specific opportunities to Healthy Start programs. Information about these opportunities and related announcements are distributed via the TASC’s monthly newsletter. The Healthy Start Learning Academies focus on knowledge and skills development and will include both lectures/webinars and assignments. TASC plans to launch three Learning Academies in 2021: A Community Action Network (CAN) Learning Academy, a Fatherhood Learning Academy, and a Quality Improvement (QI) Learning Academy.
